Weather Cancellation Policy

Lightning Policy

Futuro Soccer Academy follows the Lightning Policy as set out by the OSA. The policy is as follows:

For games or practices use the “Flash to Bang” method to monitor lightning for evacuation of the playing field to a safer environment. With this method, the seconds are counted from the time a flash of lightning is seen until a clap of thunder is heard. When this number is 30 seconds or less, evacuation of the field should get under way. Lightning awareness should begin with the first flash of lightning seen or thunder clap heard.

Large enclosed structures (substantially constructed buildings) tend to be much safer than smaller or open structures. If the game is inside a stadium, encourage all players and coaches to go to the dressing rooms. If however, such a building is not available, fully enclosed vehicles such as cars, trucks, buses, vans, fully enclosed farm vehicles, etc. with the windows rolled up provide good shelter from lightning. Never stand under trees, in an open field or under an umbrella. A game should not be restarted until 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder was heard or the last flash of lightning was seen.

A decision to cancel a game due to lightning or other dangerous weather can only be made at the field by the referee and coaches. Parents should always use their own judgement about travelling to the field during a thunder storm or other potentially dangerous weather and should notify their coach accordingly.

For practices, coaches can decide to cancel due to weather conditions at their own discretion.

Humidex Policy

When the Humidex reading is forecasted to be 40 degrees or over on a game day at the discretion of the Mini Soccer Convenor (U10 and under), games may be cancelled due to concerns for younger players exercising under such heat
and humidity.

The Mini Soccer Convenor would make such a decision by no later than 5:30 p.m. on the day and notifications would be communicated to all coaches and parents via:

•    An email to all Mini Soccer Parents and Coaches

•    As well parents are encouraged to check for a:

•    News update here on the main page of the website

•    News update on our Facebook page

•    News update on our Twitter account

Coaches have discretion over cancellation of their practice or not.
